Substance Painter

Substance Painter

Please note: This is a 2 week / 4 class meetings workshop.

In this Substance Painter workshop, we'll cover the essential basics of the entire software necessary for a fundamental understanding of the software, and build a foundation to texture creation.

You will learn to use and create various textures to be used in other engines with both PBR and non-PBR. Substance Painter is an amazing application that provides a truly innovative and intuitive painting experience, in that it allows you to paint and preview all of your maps at the same time.

You'll first learn how to create and save a Substance Painter project, and how to navigate the interface, learning where all the important things are located. Working in Substance Painter is a little different than other products on the market, and we'll break down the basic workflow for painting effectively inside of it.

From here, we'll begin the process of painting maps and setting up parameters to make your materials look the way you intend. To wrap this course up, we'll learn how to export our texture maps out of Substance Painter so they can be used in other applications. After finishing this workshop, you'll have a solid foundation of knowledge to move forward painting textures inside of Substance Painter.

Prerequisite: Basic requirements should be at least an understanding of UVW mapping and applying textures to an unwrapped model, in addition to a basic understanding of a primary 3D package, like Max, Maya, or even Zbrush.
